This video was interesting to me because it exemplified the independence that amputees seek, with the man doing fairly routine maintenance on his claw one handed in order to improve its functionality. The fact that he had his own tips in addition to showing the basic steps to replacing the bands on the claw shows his eagerness to help others in the community function independently to the highest extent possible. The part at the end with the bicycle tire was interesting - it seems like a simple but ingenious solution to a problem he faced.
Bio-Med Tech-Girls is a collaboration with the UVa Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), St. Anne's-Belfield School and Charlottesville Women in Tech. The experience provides an opportunity for high school students to get a hands-on, behind-the-scenes peek at biomedical research happening right now at UVA.
