Bio-Med Tech-Girls is a collaboration with the UVa Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), St. Anne's-Belfield School and Charlottesville Women in Tech. The experience provides an opportunity for high school students to get a hands-on, behind-the-scenes peek at biomedical research happening right now at UVA.
What was really interesting about this prosthesis was that it was so affordable and simple. The instructions were put online for anyone to use. It was printed by a 3D printer, which saved the family thousands of dollars. Plus, a new prosthetic can be printed whenever Leon outgrows his current hand, further saving lots of money. I think this is really cool because it makes extremely expensive technology more available to all.
